The California Dental Association (the “CDA”) respects the privacy of every individual who visits its website. This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) outlines the information the CDA may collect from visitors to its website and how it may use and disclose that information.
We encourage you to read this Policy before using our website. Your use of the website signifies that you agree with all terms of this Policy, so please do not use our website if you disagree with any part of this Policy.
This Policy describes only the privacy practices applicable to the CDA website found on the World Wide Web at www.cda.org, and does not apply to websites found at other locations, including any websites operated by entities affiliated with the CDA. For information concerning privacy practices of websites operated by other entities, including CDA-affiliated entities, please consult the privacy policies posted at those websites.
What personal information do we collect and why do we collect it?
The CDA may collect personal information about you (such as your name, postal address, telephone number and email address) that you provide voluntarily. You ordinarily are not required to register or provide personal information in order to access the public section of our website, but the members section of the website does require registration. The CDA will use your personal information only as permitted by this Policy.
The CDA may collect personal information online for all legal purposes, which include, but are not limited to:
“Contact Us” and Online Comments Features. The CDA encourages visitors to its website to contact us with questions and comments. Email addresses and other information of persons using these features may be collected in order to facilitate our responses to those inquiries.
Online Classified Ads. The CDA accepts online classified ads and collects personal information, including names, postal addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses, from person placing those ads.
Message Boards. The CDA website maintains message boards for professional, business-related discussion as defined in the Terms of Use for those message boards. The CDA collects personal information, including names and email addresses, from persons posting messages to those message boards.
Scientific Sessions. A member also may provide personal information when registering for sponsored scientific sessions. Personal information provided for this purpose may include your name, postal address, telephone number, email address and credit card information. You also can make hotel reservations in connection with scientific programs by following links from the CDA website to separate websites that accept reservations. Personal information provided for the purpose of making hotel reservations will be subject to the privacy policies and practices of the linked websites, and the CDA cannot be responsible for those privacy policies and practices.
When do we disclose the personal information we collect?
Except as provided herein, the CDA will not sell, rent or otherwise disclose personal information about you to unaffiliated third parties.
We may disclose personal information you have provided through our website to persons or companies that we retain to carry out activities for which you have registered or in which you have otherwise asked to participate. We also will disclose personal information if required by law, including compliance with warrants, subpoenas or other legal process.
The CDA also may offer you the opportunity to receive email updates and announcements concerning our services to the profession and the public. Personal information you have provided to the CDA may be used to facilitate those communications.
It is CDA’s policy that persons and companies to which it discloses personal information must restrict their use of such information to the purposes of their contracts with the CDA and not disclose that information to others. The CDA cannot be responsible, however, for any damages caused by the failure of unaffiliated third parties to honor their privacy obligations to the CDA. Similarly, the CDA is not responsible for the privacy policies and practices of unaffiliated entity websites that are linked to its website.
The CDA may provide personal and other information to a purchaser or successor entity in connection with the sale of the CDA, a subsidiary, affiliate or line of business associated with the CDA, or substantially all of the assets of the CDA or one of its subsidiaries, affiliates or lines of business.
Special Note for Parents
The CDA takes seriously its obligations under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act concerning the collection of personal information from children under the age of 13. The CDA website is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. However, where appropriate, the CDA will specifically instruct children not to submit personal information to our website and/or will take reasonable steps to ensure that we obtain parental consent to such submission.
Parents should be aware that information that is voluntarily given by children or others in chat sessions, email exchanges, bulletin boards or the like may be used by other parties to generate unsolicited email or other contacts. The CDA encourages all parents to instruct their children in the safe and responsible use of the Internet.
How do we protect your personal information?
The CDA takes measures to prevent unauthorized intrusion to its website and the alteration, acquisition or misuse of personal information by unauthorized persons. Notably, credit card information submitted by users of our website is encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer (“SSL”) or other encryption mechanisms. However, the CDA cautions visitors to its website that no network, including the Internet, is entirely secure. Accordingly, we cannot be responsible for loss, corruption or unauthorized acquisition of personal information provided to our website, or for any damages resulting from such loss, corruption or unauthorized acquisition.
What other information do we collect?
When you access and interact with our website, we may collect certain information often referred to as “clickstream data.” Such data may include the type of Internet browser and operating system you are using, the pages and information you accessed on our website, the total time spent on our website, and the domain name of the website from which you linked to our site.
